Bible Reading Plan

To help you with daily Bible reading, I’ve put together a balanced and thoughtfully structured Bible reading plan. You do not have to use this plan, but it is designed to be practical, easy to follow, and grounded in sound Bible study principles. You can download the plan directly below as a PDF, or download the .ini file to use it as a daily checklist inside the app mentioned below.

If you use an iPhone or iPad, there is a free and very simple app called ReadingPlan that I personally use to track daily Bible reading progress. The app includes several default plans, but the custom plan I’ve created follows this structure:

  • Weighted 2–3 chapters from the Old Testament each day

  • Weighted 1–2 chapters from the non-Pauline New Testament books each day

  • Weighted 1–2 chapters from Paul’s epistles each day

The reading amounts are weighted according to chapter length so that longer sections are balanced with shorter ones, making the daily reading load more consistent and manageable. By the end of the year, this plan is designed so that you will have read:

  • The entire Old Testament exactly 1 time

  • The non-Pauline New Testament books exactly 4 times

  • Paul’s epistles exactly 8 times

This structure provides balance and ensures that the doctrines of grace found in Paul’s epistles remain a constant focus throughout the year while still maintaining regular exposure to the whole counsel of God.

One of the strengths of this plan is that each portion resets exactly at the start of the new year. That means every January, you begin again in Genesis, Matthew, and Romans without restarting in the middle of a cycle.

I have used plans where different days focus on entirely different sections of Scripture, which can be helpful for covering large portions quickly. However, I often found it harder to retain context from books I had not read in several days. This plan is designed to help you maintain context and familiarity by reading from each section of Scripture every day in a consistent rhythm.

Once you download the .ini file, you can follow the in-app instructions to load it into ReadingPlan. If you prefer not to use the app, or do not have an Apple device, you can also print the PDF checklist and track your progress manually.
